Just over a year since welcoming its first visitors, The Bothy Experience in Glamis has been awarded Four Stars by VisitScotland.
In recognition of The Bothy Experience’s accolade, Dennis McFarlane of VisitScotland visited the visitor attraction on November 5th, when he awarded founder and owner Kim Cameron with the highly-prestigious Four-Star grading.
Dennis McFarlane, VisitScotland Industry Relationship Manager, said:
“Congratulations to the whole team at the Gin Bothy Experience on this fantastic achievement. The attraction is a great example of how a contemporary and innovative business can provide visitors with an insight into a uniquely Scottish way of life while also promoting the excellence of local food and drink.
“Our Quality Assurance Scheme is world-leading and provides a trusted, independent and impartial source of information for visitors. It is about much more than just a star rating – it is about the entire visitor experience and investing in the business to make it as economically sustainable, and profitable, as it can be.”
The popular Angus visitor attraction features an exhibition depicting life over the years in an 18th century Angus bothy.
“Bothies were one-room cottages where single farm workers lived,” explained Kim Cameron, who also created the award-winning Gin Bothy brand.
“These men were the guardians of the land and I’m very proud to be able to share their stories and their way of life with visitors from all over the world.”
The Bothy Experience also tells the story of the award-winning Gin Bothy brand and sells a range of carefully-sourced local food and drink, providing visitors with fabulous tastes and flavours from across Angus.
VisitScotland’s star grading system is an internationally-recognised quality assurance scheme and only visitor attractions that provide an ‘excellent customer experience’ are awarded Four Stars by VisitScotland.
Kim Cameron, founder of Gin Bothy said:
“I’m delighted the excellence of The Bothy Experience and its staff has been recognised by VisitScotland. I’d like to thank the Bothy Experience team for all their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm and for ensuring our many visitors always enjoy a four-star experience.
“The Bothy Experience is more than just a business to me,” continued Kim. “The Bothy Experience is a way for me to share my lifelong passion for bothies and to ensure the traditional bothy way of life is remembered and celebrated.”
The Bothy Experience is open from Thursday to Sunday from 11am until 5pm and admission is free. There are also Gin Bothy tasting sessions, with festive tasting sessions throughout December, and private tasting sessions on selected evenings (booking essential). “We also host special events throughout the year, including our St Andrew’s Day Gin & Cheese Tasting on November 30,” added Kim.
Since opening in October 2018, The Bothy Experience has become a popular place for private parties and corporate events. “We’re located within the grade 1 listed buildings that were part of the former Angus Folk Museum and our historic farm steading, complete with its bothy and blacksmith’s forge, is a great place for a get together,” said Kim.
